Projects Underway
Mecklenburg County is working to make improvements to Albemarle Road Park. The Albemarle Road Park Capital Reserve Project will develop a Master Plan and build the first phase of the park. The master plan will outline a long-term vision for the park.
Goals of the Master Plan:
- Identify community needs, wants, desires for the park
- Identify users interested in enjoying the park
- Develop a plan for implementation in phases
- Improve perception, safety, access, visibility and usability of the park
Extension of existing Briar Creek Greenway from Central Avenue to Monroe Road. This greenway project will add ~1.7 miles of trails to the greenway system.
This Capital Project will extend 1.10 miles, from Manning Drive to Little Sugar Creek Greenway and extend along Little Hope Creek to Keystone Court. This project will connect the neighborhoods to Little Sugar Creek Greenway and Marion Diehl Park.
This Capital Project will extend the existing Caldwell Station Greenway to Old Statesville Road and connect to the future Northern Regional Recreation Center.
The Cross Charlotte Trail is a partnership between Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte that strives to develop a 26 mile contiguous trail that will connect from the SC/NC State line to Cabarrus County. Current projects added to existing Little Sugar Creek Greenway will provide 18 miles of contiguous greenway trail.
The Devonshire Park project will improve an existing park located at 6330 Barrington Dr. in Charlotte, NC. This 1.7 acre park includes a playground and walking trails. The Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners allocated $7 million to the improvement of existing local parks as a broader equity initiative. Devonshire Park is one of the ten parks that were selected to receive this funding.
This capital project is for the development of the Discovery Place Nature Museum. This project is a partnership between Mecklenburg County and Discovery Place. Projected facility upgrade components may include: Woodland garden, museum building, live animal habitats, forest floor, community intersection and site access and circulation.
This capital project will add improvements to this existing neighborhood park, including a street right of way abandonment per Master Plan.
This capital project is for the Master Planning and the development of the first phase of the park. With an abundance of canopy trees, ephemeral streams and rolling topography, Eastfield Park has the potential to become the region’s first “adventure park.” Eastfield Park is 114 acres and is located on the north side of Eastfield Road with its northern limits adjacent to the Skybrook West subdivision.
This capital project is for the master planning and development of new community park in Mint Hill.
This capital project will add an underpass to South Trade Street for a greenway connection in partnership with NCDOT.
This capital project will develop an Improvements Plan for renovations to existing Independence Park. The project will enhance the connectivity to the currently American Legion Memorial Stadium project.
This capital project will add the first section of greenway trail built on Irvins Creek in Matthews. The greenway trail will be ~1.5 miles long and will provide a connection between Crown Point Elementary School and Idlewild Road Park. This project is being built in partnership with the Town of Matthews.
This capital project will provide 2.2 miles of new greenway trails from Nevin Regional Park through Ribbon Walk Nature Preserve, to Allen Hills Park.
This capital project will develop ~ 2.9 mile greenway extension from the Polk Historic Site to the South Carolina State Line. This greenway section is part of the Cross Charlotte Trail which will eventually connect Cabarrus County to the South Carolina State Line.
ital project will build on the current Long Creek Greenway project to connect multiple neighborhoods to the Northlake Mall retail area. This project is buing developed in partnership with Storm Water Services.
This capital project will extend the current greenway project by ~1.7 miles from I-485 to Oadkade Road.
Renovation of existing recreation center.
This capital project will add 1 mile of greenway trail to the McAlpine/McMullen/Four Mile Creek Greenways network. This section of greenway is being developed in partnership with NCDOT.
This capital project will add 2.53 miles of greenway trails to the McDowell Creek Greenway. This section of greenway will close the gap between Torrance Creek Greenway and Upper McDowell Creek Greenway (at Hwy 73) and is being developed in partnership with NCDOT. This project will provide a safer crossing of Hwy 73.
This project is ~ 1.0 mile long greenway that will extend from existing Torrence Creek Greenway, under Gilead Rd. to Chilgrove Ln. This project has been divided into 2 sections. Phase 1a is from Torrence Creek Gwy to Gilead Road Trailhead. Phase 1b is from Gilead Road Trailhead to Chilgrove Ln.
This capital project will add the first section of greenway built on McIntyre Creek. This section of greenway will be .95 miles long and will provide a connection through Hornets Nest Park.
This capital project will develop the first 1.5 miles of Paw Creek Greenway connecting residential areas to the Robert L. Smith Park. This greenway has been identified as a corridor for the Carolina Thread Trail.
Reedy Creek Greenway from Grier Road to Plaza Road Ex. is an approved FY2020 Capital Project that will add approximately 2 miles of greenway trails. Final alignment and length of the greenway are to be determined through a preliminary planning exercise.
This capital project will add ~ .5 mile of greenway trails, expanding the Wesley Heights/Stewart/Irwin Creek Greenway network to ~ 6.4 total miles. This section of greenway is being developed in partnership with the NCDOT. This project will connect the neighborhoods to Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Stewart Creek Greenway.
This capital project will add ~ 1 mile of greenway trails, expanding the Wesley Heights/Stewart/Irwin Creek Greenway network to ~ 6.4 miles. This section of greenway is being developed in partnership with the Lakewood CDC. The greenway is also being completed in coordination with Charlotte Mecklenburg Storm Water Services improvements in the area.
This greenway will provide a connection between the Lakewood community and the Martin Luther King Park and Stewart Creek Greenway.
This capital project will develop approximately 3.3 miles of greenway trail from Billy Graham Parkway to McDowell Farms Drive.
This capital project will develop ~ .88 miles of greenway trail from the CATS Park and Ride to Rosewood Meadow Ln. in the Town of Huntersville. This project will include public art.
This greenway project will connect two sections of greenway to extend the network to 2.79 miles. This 1.5 long greenway section will connect area residents to nearby amenities such as the RiverGate Shopping Center, the Steele Creek Athletic Association Complex, the Steele Creek Crossing Shopping Center, the Steele Creek Library and the Southwest Middle School.
