Arts, History, and Culture

MeckRoots Program

MeckRoots is a County-sponsored program administered through Park and Recreation that seeks to connect the people and spaces of Mecklenburg County through history and storytelling.

MeckRoots will host community events that feature storytelling, presentations on local history, and panel discussions.

Through innovative programming and workshops, curated online resources, and recording sessions, MeckRoots will also provide residents with the tools to tell their stories, to learn how to collect and share stories themselves, how to research their histories and families, and how build their own archives to preserve their stories. The program will also seek to create a digital archive of material that weaves together the history and geography of Mecklenburg County to share with the public.
